Laser: Pigmented Lesions in Vineland & Elmer, NJ

Pigmented lesions are dark spots that appear on your skin as you age. These lesions, which are also referred to as age spots, freckles, or birthmarks, are flat, brown areas that appear on the hands, face, chest, arms, legs, back, and neck. Pigmented lesions are associated with aging and chronic sun exposure. Thanks to advancements in laser technology, pigmented lesions can be removed safely, effectively, and non-invasively at the Skin Care Center.

How It Works

At the Skin Care Center, we use light-based treatments to remove pigmented lesions. The laser energy targets red and brown pigment in the skin. When the light energy is absorbed by the pigmented lesion, it breaks up the melanin that causes discoloration and allows it to be carried away by the blood or brought to the skin’s surface.

What to Expect

Laser treatment of pigmented lesions is usually pain-free. A cold gel is applied to the treatment area prior to the procedure. During treatment, precise pulses of light are delivered to the pigmented lesions. The treatment generally takes minutes to perform, depending on the size of the lesion.

The pigmented lesions will darken slightly following treatment and then disappear within 7 to 10 days. You may experience some mild redness following the procedure, but it will subside within a few hours. In order to preserve the effects of treatment, the regular use of sunscreen is recommended.

Pigmented lesions in almost all areas of the body can be treated with laser treatments. A few treatment sessions may be required to achieve gradual, natural-looking improvements. To achieve the best results, treatments are spread out over a few months.
