Would you like to grow longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes? Now you can do so with ease, thanks to an innovative new treatment called LATISSE. LATISSE (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is the first and only prescription treatment for hypotrichosis, or the condition of having inadequate eyelashes. Although it’s not known exactly how LATISSE works, researchers believe that its active ingredient, bimatoprost, increases the duration of and the percentage of hairs in the anagen phase, also known as the growth phase.
Background
LATISSE was developed by Allergan, a leading pharmaceutical company with over 60 years of experience. In 2001, Allergan developed a medicated eye drop to treat ocular hypertension and then discovered that patients using the eye drops were growing longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes. Allergan studied the active ingredient in the eye drops and after a clinical trial, LATISSE was born. LATISSE earned its FDA approval in 2008.
What to Expect
The results of treatment with LATISSE are visible in as little as eight weeks. Full results become apparent after 12 to 16 weeks. All you have to do is apply the solution topically once a day, along the skin of your upper eyelashes. Applying LATISSE to your lower eyelids is not recommended because excess hair growth outside of the treatment area could occur. If you stop using LATISSE, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months, so you must continue to use it in order to maintain results.
